Mr. Smith will serve as the representative for the North Mecklenburg region, consisting of Northwest Charlotte, Cornelius, Huntersville, and Davidson, NC. The Park and Recreation Commission (PRC) is an advisory board that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and staff on recreation programming, budget, land acquisition, and long-range planning.

The Parks and Recreation department is a vital conduit to outdoor spaces, providing families with recreational options. Parks and greenways, also known as greenspaces, provide a competitive advantage for local Chambers and Governments in attracting and retaining companies considering moving to the region.

Mr. Smith's experience in both non-profit and for-profit organizations in the Greenspace industry makes him an ideal choice to serve on the Parks and Recreation Commission.

Mr. Smith’s priority for the Parks and Recreation Commission are as follows:

Support economic activity and job creation by working in conjunction with the local government and chambers to attract new companies through the expansion of the park system.

Increase the number of Parks and Recreation facilities, as employers and employees are more likely to locate near high-quality parks and recreation amenities.

Help counter social isolation by connecting people with nature and each other.

Work in conjunction with schools and social organizations to teach kids about environmental responsibility, provide better cognitive and emotional stimulation, and promote creativity and imagination.

Increase access to areas with fewer air pollutants and healthier conditions
