Noted Author Bob Rich Explores the Search for Happiness in New Novel 'The Delphi Café'

PR Newswire

Fully transformed from an earlier work, The Delphi Café: Finding Happiness is a character-driven novel from acclaimed author Bob Rich about work, family, purpose and the people who help us find our way.

BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- What does it mean to be happy — and how do we know when we've found it?

Available Oct. 6, the book turns ideas first explored in Rich and Friedman’s earlier Secrets from the Delphi Café into an entirely new, narrative-driven story about the choices, relationships and unexpected encounters that shape a meaningful life.

Those questions are at the heart of The Delphi Café: Finding Happiness, a new novel from author Bob Rich (bobrichbooks.com), co-authored with Scott Friedman and with Mike Pehanich. Available Oct. 6, the book turns ideas first explored in Rich and Friedman's earlier Secrets from the Delphi Café into an entirely new, narrative-driven story about the choices, relationships and unexpected encounters that shape a meaningful life.

At the center of the novel is "Socrates" Smith, an ordinary man navigating familiar questions about career, family, finances and purpose. At a crossroads in his life, Socrates begins searching for answers to questions he can no longer ignore. His journey leads him to the Delphi Café, where he meets Sophie, a mysterious waitress who offers unexpected wisdom about work, relationships and the pursuit of happiness.

What follows is a story built around a deceptively simple question: What actually makes us happy?

"Most of us spend our lives pursuing happiness without ever stopping to ask what happiness really means to us," said Rich, who serves as Senior Chairman of Rich Products Corporation. "This book gives us a chance to explore that question through characters and conversations that I hope will feel familiar to readers. We all have people who enter our lives at just the right moment and help us see things differently."

The Delphi Café represents a significant departure from its previous title. Rather than offering lessons in a how-to format, the new book embeds readers in the experiences of Socrates and the people he encounters. Along the way, the novel explores the tension between ambition and contentment, professional success and personal fulfillment, independence and commitment, and the expectations people carry with them through work and life.

"The Delphi Café is one of those rare books that makes you pause and take stock of your own life," said lifestyle journalist Elissa Rosen, a contributor to People magazine. "It's thoughtful, hopeful, and filled with the kind of wisdom that sneaks up on you through memorable characters and simple moments."

The novel is part of a new and reimagined collection of Rich's books that spans decades of storytelling about adventure, friendship, family, business and the lessons accumulated along the way. The collection includes Catching Big Fish: An Angler's Challenge; Why We Fish: Stories of Friendship and Adventure; Looking Through Water, Rich's first novel, which was adapted into a feature film starring Michael Douglas and Cameron Douglas; and The Right Angle: Adventures in Sports, Business, and Life.

Raised in Buffalo, N.Y., Rich discovered storytelling around campfires in northern Ontario. Over the years, his experiences in business and his travels from Lake Erie to the Florida Keys have provided inspiration for stories that have gained a loyal following while also attracting new readers.

The Delphi Café: Finding Happiness will be released Oct. 6 by Forefront Books. Learn more about Rich's books and order The Delphi Café at bobrichbooks.com/re-imagined-editions/.
