Today, Mike Kelloway, Member of Parliament for Sydney-Glace Bay, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, on behalf of the Honourable Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport and the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, announced that the Government of Canada is strengthening air safety at Windsor International Airport.

Through the Airports Capital Assistance Program, the federal government is providing nearly $7.5 million to Windsor International Airport to rehabilitate the asphalt and edge light modernization on Runway 07-25, and to purchase a second Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting vehicle. These improvements will help keep passengers, airport workers, and flight crews safe by ensuring critical aviation infrastructure remains in good condition and that emergency response services are equipped to support growing passenger volumes.

These improvements are particularly important for Windsor International Airport, which is located along a vital trade corridor at the Canada-United States border. Situated within an 800-kilometre radius of more than 100 million people and a major industrial market, the airport contributes to regional connectivity, trade, tourism, and economic growth.

• Transport Canada's Airports Capital Assistance Program provides federal funding to help eligible airports finance capital projects and equipment that will help them maintain safety.
• Eligible projects include the purchase/replacement of heavy airside mobile equipment (snow blowers, snowplows, runway sweepers, loaders and material spreaders) and aircraft rescue firefighting vehicles; associated equipment and shelters; the rehabilitation of runway, taxiway and apron pavements; airfield lighting and electrical systems; and the installation of wildlife fencing.
