Dr. Jeffrey G. Tauth, a board-certified interventional cardiologist who has practiced in central Arkansas for more than 30 years, recently hosted a fundraising event to support the expansion of cardiovascular services in Mena, Arkansas. The July event drew notable attendees including Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who spoke with Dr. Tauth at length about his vision for bringing advanced cardiac care to patients in western Arkansas.
Dr. Tauth has maintained a satellite cardiology clinic in Mena for more than 25 years, traveling there three times each month to provide cardiac consultations, diagnostic imaging, and vascular studies to patients who would otherwise face significant barriers to specialized cardiovascular care. The practice has engaged a grant writer and plans to submit its first series of grant applications this month to fund an expanded cardiac facility in the region.
"Western Arkansas has a significant population of cardiac patients who face real barriers to accessing the level of care available in larger cities," said Dr. Tauth. "When I started coming to Mena 25 years ago, I saw immediately that the community had cardiac patients who needed more than what was available to them locally. That has not changed. The goal of this expansion is to change that. The response at the event, including the conversations we had with Governor Sanders, gave me confidence that we are moving in the right direction."
The Mena clinic, operated under Hot Springs Heart and Vascular, currently offers consultations, echocardiography, carotid Doppler studies, electrocardiography, and vascular imaging. Patients who require more advanced procedures, including cardiac catheterization, stenting, and device implantation, are scheduled at the Vascular Center of Hot Springs, the first cardiovascular ambulatory surgical center in central Arkansas, which Dr. Tauth opened in April 2026. An expanded Mena facility would reduce the distance those patients need to travel for interventional care.
Dr. Tauth said the fundraising event provided an opportunity to introduce regional leaders to the cardiac care gap that exists in Mena and surrounding communities, where residents currently travel significant distances for interventional procedures available locally in larger Arkansas cities. No other cardiologist has maintained a comparable long-term presence in the Mena community over that period.
"This is not a new idea for me," said Dr. Tauth. "I have been working toward this for years, and what has always been clear is that the patients in this part of the state deserve the same quality of cardiac care that patients in Little Rock or Fayetteville take for granted. The fundraiser was a meaningful step, and having Governor Sanders attend, someone who understands rural healthcare access at a policy level, signals that there is real momentum behind what we are trying to build. I am optimistic about what comes next."
Hot Springs Heart and Vascular serves patients across central and western Arkansas. Dr. Tauth performs cardiac and vascular procedures at the Vascular Center of Hot Springs, and his patient base includes individuals referred from throughout the region who require interventional cardiology services not available closer to home.
