Before the Sharonville Holiday Market: a Springdale podiatrist on shoes, socks and blisters
Cincinnati (Springfield Pike), United States - October 21, 2026 / Cincinnati Foot & Ankle Care (Cincinnati (Springfield Pike), OH) /
The new Sharonville Holiday Market opens November 6. Cincinnati Foot & Ankle Care in Springdale explains how the right shoes and socks help prevent blisters and corns on long shopping days.
Holiday shopping season starts early in the northern suburbs this year. The new Sharonville Holiday Market runs November 6-8, 2026, at the Sharonville Convention Center, and Santa will be at the show to greet visitors. For many shoppers, a day spent walking the aisles and standing in line also means a day of sore feet.
Cincinnati Foot & Ankle Care, which has a Springdale location on Springfield Pike, says the shoes and socks people choose for a long day out matter more than they think. According to the American Podiatric Medical Association, properly fitted footwear can help prevent blisters, chafing, and ankle or foot injuries. Socks that are too small can force toes to bunch together, and that friction can cause painful blisters or corns.
Late fall weather adds another factor. APMA notes that damp, sweaty feet can chill more easily and are more prone to bacterial infections, and suggests foot powder inside socks. The national podiatry association advises choosing winter footwear that keeps feet warm, dry, and well-supported. The practice adds that wick socks instead of cotton and the right shoes can prevent blisters, corns and calluses.
Podiatrists Theresa Melody, DPM, Michael Rahn, DPM, and Matthew Novak, DPM, see patients in Springdale, one of 11 Cincinnati Foot & Ankle Care locations in the area.
The Springdale location is at 11560 Springfield Pike in the Springdale Town Center, near West Kemper Road. Free parking is available.
"Holiday shopping is a lot of walking on hard floors, and people often do it in shoes they would never wear for a long walk. A supportive pair that fits, with socks that keep feet dry, saves a lot of blisters and sore arches by the end of the day," said a spokesperson for Cincinnati Foot & Ankle Care.
- Wear shoes that already fit well, not a new pair you have not broken in.
- Choose wick socks instead of cotton, and make sure they are not too small.
- Use foot powder inside your socks if your feet tend to sweat.
- Take short breaks to sit down during a long day of shopping.
- If a blister or corn keeps coming back, have a podiatrist take a look.
